Mount Meru (4,566m), Tanzania’s second-highest peak, offers climbers breathtaking scenery and rich wildlife within Arusha National Park. Its steep slopes provide a rewarding challenge and excellent acclimatization for Kilimanjaro. Due to abundant wildlife on the lower slopes, an armed ranger accompanies all climbs.

📍 Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Huts (13.8km)
Elevation: 1,597m to 2,503m
Altitude Gain: 906m
Hiking Time: ~3.5 hours
Highlights: Wildlife encounters, lush forests, stunning views
Overnight: Miriakamba Hut 🏕️
After breakfast, depart from Arusha at 8:30 a.m. for Momella Gate. Following registration and briefing, your hike begins. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route to Miriakamba Hut, where you’ll have dinner and rest for the night.
📍 Day 2: Miriakamba Huts to Saddle Huts (6.1km)
Elevation: 2,503m to 3,560m
Altitude Gain: 1,057m
Hiking Time: ~2.5 hours
Highlights: Scenic landscapes, steeper terrain, optional Little Meru hike
Overnight: Saddle Hut 🏕️
A challenging yet rewarding hike leads you to Saddle Hut. In the afternoon, an optional trek to Little Meru (3,820m) offers spectacular panoramic views. Dinner and overnight at Saddle Hut.
📍 Day 3: Saddle Hut to Summit & Return (5.5km)
Elevation: 3,560m to 4,566m (summit) then descent to 3,560m
Altitude Gain/Loss: 1,006m
Highlights: Rocky summit path, breathtaking sunrise, crater views
Overnight: Saddle Hut 🏕️
Begin your summit attempt early in the morning. After reaching the peak of Mount Meru, descend to Saddle Hut for breakfast and a well-earned rest. Lunch, dinner, and overnight at Saddle Hut.
📍 Day 4: Saddle Hut to Momella Gate (6.5km)
Elevation: 3,560m to 1,597m
Altitude Loss: 1,963m
Highlights: Wildlife sightings, scenic descent, park exit
After breakfast, descend past Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates. A transfer will take you back to Arusha/Moshi.
